第一幕·四十六

海曼十分清楚梁皖妮的软肋——名誉和职业之路。

梁皖妮吸了一口气，道：“Well, what do you want to say?”

海曼昂着头，不可一世地看着她：“My request is simple. I remember Mr Brown once appointed you as the heroine of his new play.”

梁皖妮点头：“You 're right. But that was nearly a year ago. The play ended later.”

海曼嘲笑似的摇了摇头：“No, the play didn't end. Soon after you went to Broadway, he went to Italy. The play was staged in Italy. Maybe it's because of Nightingale. Nightingale was born in Italy. He changed many places and names in his play.”

“So what does this have to do with me?”梁皖妮摊了摊手。

“Of course it has something to do with you. Not long ago, I heard your agent calling Mr Brown. Mr Brown is going back to England soon. He wants the play to be staged in British and you will still be the heroine.”

海曼停顿了一下，从沙发上站起来，走到梁皖妮面前，继续说：“But you have to refuse.”

“Why?”梁皖妮不解。她认为这件事情还轮不到海曼来做主。

“I promised my girlfriend that I would help her get the heroine of the play. She watched the play when she traveled to Italy last month, and she was very interested in it. So she lost her temper when I told her that Mr Brown had long set you as the heroine.”

原来海曼有一个未公开的女朋友，而且似乎也是个演员。梁皖妮未曾想到，海曼死乞白赖地向她表白，居然是给她挖了这么一个大坑。

她暂且压制住自己的怒气，心平气和地问：“May I ask what's your girlfriend's name?”
