第一幕·二十三

演出结束后，虽然中间有插曲，但是谢幕还是必不可少的。

梁皖妮准备上场时，约翰没有阻拦她。他怒气未消，恨不得再找到她的什么差错，数罪并罚。

玛格丽特拽了拽梁皖妮：“You can skip the curtain call.”

但是梁皖妮执意要上场：“I have to apologize.”

梁皖妮站上台，观众席一片嘈杂。

她接过话筒，深吸一口气。没有管观众，她说道：“I am deeply sorry for today's performance accident. As I said at the closing of my first day of performance, I thank the last audience.”

观众并没有平静下来。也许，他们已经见过了太多类似的说辞，早已不以为然。

梁皖妮停了下来。主持人以为她说完了，想拿走她的话筒。

但是梁皖妮继续说：“I know that most of you don't want to hear or even believe my explanation. However, I still want to explain the situation.”

观众席上传来的声音小了一点。不管她说什么。总有故事可听。没人会拒绝一个故事，不管是真是假。

梁皖妮调整了一下情绪：“I have a cousin who has just turned 18. She came to New York from China and worked in a restaurant. We met every day. I can felt that her life in New York was not satisfactory. She was very unhappy. Her mother, my aunt, has high expectations of her. Her mother asked her to succeed in America. However, she has no high education. She only graduated from junior high school. She has no skill. She can only work in restaurants.”

梁皖妮说着，流下泪来。陈可欣这半个月的艰辛，她都看在眼里。每天晚上，陈可欣都拖着疲惫的身子。有时，梁皖妮让她早点休息，但是她缠着梁皖妮想学更多的英语。

“She disappeared the other day. I don't know what happened to her. I'm not even sure if she's still alive.”
